In 1943 Dr. Abraham Maslow published a paper titled "A theory of Human Motivation" in Psychological Review. That paper has become a foundational part of modern psychology and framed the viewpoint of many of our health professionals.
He created what’s now called, "Maslow’s hierarchy of need." In it, he argued that before man could become a man in community he had basic motivations that had to be met. There were five levels: physiological, safety, love, esteem, and self-actualization. At the top were: FOOD, SHELTER and WARMTH.
I have my own hierarchy of need based on my faith in Jesus Christ and the passion I have to follow him with reckless abandon … they are;
1. SPIRIT OF GOD. The breath of God in my life / His story that gives me identity.
2. MISSION. I have a purpose for being on planet Earth. I’m the right man to be alive right now.
3. BROTHERHOOD. Others need me, and I need them. I am a man in community.
Let me say this brother – if a man doesn’t have a MISSION – why the heck do I need food, shelter or warmth?! If I don’t have a mission … what am I doing here? My mission is more important than what I eat or wear or live in. The REASON I need food and energy and shelter and health is because I AM A MAN ON A MISSION.
A MISSION DEFINES YOU – AND OUR MISSION IS JESUS.
The mission is Jesus. Every man, every nation, every city, every street.
Jesus told us, “You didn't choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.” JOHN 15:16
Sometimes brother, you choose the mission. And, sometimes the mission chooses you. God has chosen you. That’s why you’re reading this right now. That’s why we’ve made a choice to be STRONGER. We’ve been chosen to be men with a mission. AND WE ACCEPT THE MISSION.
This year we launch a five year campaign to the most DANGEROUS NATIONS in the world. Building on the success of the VietNam Never Quit outreach in September God has given us the mission to raise up 50,000 pastors who are committed to discipling men in the 50 most dangerous nations of the globe!
