A Father's Ultimate Sacrifice

A Father's Ultimate Sacrifice

The last words of Corey Comperatore’s life were two words, he yelled, “Get down!” At the same time he threw himself over his wife and daughter. A gunman 160 yards away was attempting to kill former President Trump.

One shot hit Mr. Trump in the ear … another missing the former President slammed into Corey. A hero who saved the lives of his wife and daughter.

One daughter, Allyson, called her father “the best dad a girl could ever ask for,” adding, “he was a man of God, loved Jesus fiercely, and also looked after our church and our members as family.”

In an interview with the New York Post on Monday, Helen Comperatore, the widow of Corey Comperatore, shared her husband’s last words, spoken as he shielded his family from bullets that ultimately took his life. “He’s my hero,” Helen Comperatore said. “He just said, ‘Get down!’ That was the last thing he said.”

She said that she and Corey were childhood sweethearts and about to celebrate their 29th wedding anniversary when the family headed to the rally to support Trump. Describing her late husband to the newspaper as a “simple man,” Helen Comperatore said he put “his wife and kids first all the time.

Friends and neighbors remember him as a generous man. An engineer by trade and the former Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company Chief, many of them would say, “there was always a wave and a smile … he would go out of his way to help.”

Corey gave his life for his family.

That’s what a father does. He gives his life. It may not be as dramatic as Corey, but love always comes out of sacrifice. We love, so we give.

How do we protect our families? How do we give our lives?

We do the right things … we’re there for them. We love without hesitation. We give our time and love and help to those we love. What does it mean to take a bullet?

For many men that means stop your addictions, take control over your emotions, lean into the Word of God, put down your phone and give time to those you love.

Remembering Corey Comperatore, a hero. And praying you and I will be the men our families need us to be in the daily walk of life, in the moments of danger and against the attacks of the enemy.

May the Lord be with you today. And may the Lord cover Corey’s family, the families of all those hurt during this event - and may God bless America.
